
Santosh Mathen
Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Santosh Mathen was born and raised on Long Island. He graduated summa cum laude from Union College after which he attended medical school at Albany Medical College in upstate New York. After graduating as a junior inductee to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society, Dr. Mathen did his orthopaedic surgery residency at Albany Medical Center providing level 1 trauma care. Following residency, Dr. Mathen completed his fellowship training at the well- respected and world reknown Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center for upper extremity, hand, and microvascular surgery.
Dr. Mathen’s practice encompasses both the management of non-surgical and operative care of the upper extremity and hand. During training, Dr. Mathen developed a keen interest in shoulder, elbow, and hand trauma as well as reconstruction and joint replacement surgery of the upper extremity. While these surgeries are part of his armamentarium, Dr. Mathen emphasizes the vital importance of preoperative and postoperative care of these unique orthopaedic conditions.
Dr. Mathen has recently coauthored a book chapter on the repair of distal bicep tendon ruptures for the American Society of Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). He is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society of Surgery of the Hand, and the American Association of Hand Surgeons. In his free time, Dr. Mathen enjoys fitness training and bareboat sailing.
